Bank Negara Malaysia, HQ
Brief
Bank Negara Malaysia is the Central Bank of Malaysia. The HQ building complex is a critical function facility. It is a highly secure facility and some parts of the facility operate 24/7 every day of the year.
The fire alarm system and fireman intercom system were reaching end of life. Breakdowns were frequent. Repairs were getting costly. The customer decided to address the problems by retrofitting the facility with analogue addressable fire alarm system and microprocessor-based fireman intercom system.
Installation work was done outside normal working hours, nights and weekends. The facility continued to function normally during the entire implementation period.
Details
The fire alarm system chosen was Notifer by Honeywell. It consisted of 4 nos control panels, 2 nos network control anunciator panels, a graphical network control station, smoke control stations and a central mimic. The equipment was connected on Noti-Fire-Net network. A BACnet gateway was also installed to pass data to Metasys BAS. The quantities of devices involved were 2900 nos photo smoke detectors, 330 nos heat detectors, 130 nos duct smoke detectors, 88 nos highly sensitive laser smoke detectors, 30 nos harsh environment smoke detectors, 200 nos multi-environment smoke detectors, about 1,000 monitor and control modules.
The fireman intercom was Mictron 800 by Micro-CTL Automation. It consisted of the main control panel, 20 nos remote sub-panel and 178 nos telephone hand sets.
All cables used in the installation were fire-rated cables.

Taylor’s University, Lakeside Campus
Brief
Completed in 2010, it is state-of-the-art, modern and intelligently designed for tropical environment. It sits on 27 acres of greenery and surrounded by a 5.5 acres of man-made lake.
A Building Automation System (BAS) was installed during the construction of the campus. Subsequently, chilled water plant control and chilled water metering for shop tenants were installed during the operation cycle of the campus.
Details
Continuum by Andover Controls was the BAS selected for the project. The initial installation consisted of an Operator Work Station (OWS), 5 nos controller/ routers, 1 no Modbus gateway, 180 nos DDCs, sensors and transducers. Most of the IO points were for monitoring of electrical parameters and monitoring & controls of AHUs, FCUs and fans.
Subsequently a system was installed for plant room control. It consisted of an OWS, a controller/router and DDCs. It is used to monitor the plant parameters, control the central pressure by-pass valve and sequence the chillers based on current loads.
When the owner decided to charge the shop lot tenants for the actual amount of cooling energy used by their FCUs, we were invited to carry out the installation works. It involved major chilled water piping works and installation of BTU meters. All works were carried out at night. The chilled water system was put back in running condition again by the next morning every day during the 3-months duration of the work. The scope of work included design, procurement, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning.

Machang Prison
Brief
This correctional facility has a capacity to house 1,000 inmates. It consists of 4 prison blocks and support facilities such as staff quarters, a surau, a club house, multipurpose hall, parks and other support buildings.
It is equipped with an Integrated Electronic Security System (Sistem Keselamatan Elektronik Bersepadu - SKEB). The SKEB consists of many separate systems tied together by an enterprise system that provides a common platform for man-machine interface and exchange of data.
The system has a main control room (MCR) with segregated display and control for women section and a back up MCR. In the case when MCR is down or become inaccessible, the MCR function is switched to the back up MCR and equipment at MCR will be isolated from the network (rendering it off-line). There are also control rooms at the prison blocks to enable operators at each block to monitor and control security of their respective zones or buildings.
Details
The scope of work was to design and build the SKEB. The design was based on the “Needs Statements’ by the customer.
The enterprise system is Continuum by Andover Controls. The systems that connect to the enterprise system include digital video management system, access control and alarm monitoring (panic button, cell lock, guard tour, sally port, main gate), UPS monitoring, digital intercom, fence intrusion detection system, perimeter lighting control, perimeter video motion detection and visitor/inmate intercom system. The system is large and complex consisting of over 25 work stations and 4 servers including a hot redundant server.
